Summary:

Hendrix (Abra), an aspiring young rapper from the slums strikes an unlikely friendship with Doc (Dido de La Paz), a poet who has long abandoned his art. They turn to each other trying not to be swallowed by their circumstances.

Respeto is charged with poetry and music and considered one of the first films to truly tackle the current era of extrajudicial killings. The film swept 7 awards at the Cinemalaya Film Festival including Best Picture, Audience Choice, and NETPAC. Consistently hailed by Philippine critics as one of the best films of 2017.

Abra is the Philippines’ most popular rapper and makes his debut in the big screen. This is the first film of Alberto Monteras II.

It took Alberto “Treb” Monteras II more than a decade to finally make his first feature length film. Monteras started out as a music video director whose credits include Urbandub’s “The Fight is Over,” Rico Blanco’s “Antukin,” Regine Velasquez’s “And I Love You So,” Chicosci’s “Seven Black Roses,” and Quest’s “Pagbabago.” He also directed commercials, T.V. shows, and live concerts. His music-laden career almost begs for a full length film, but Monteras needed to put his immediate needs first.
